A Nerd’s Impression: Apple’s HomePod

Today Apple introduced something expected (and unexpected) at the worldwide developers conference a.k.a dub dub. A speaker. That would be, a speaker that you can talk to. A speaker that when it starts up, analyses the room it is in so that when it starts to play, it sounds amazing. HomePod as Apple calls it, is a wireless speaker that has built in Siri (Apple’s smart assistant) to allow users to control their media playback. The biggest push that Apple feels separates their speaker from the competition, is the quality of the audio. From their press release they state that it has;

Spatial awareness to sense its location in a room and automatically adjust the audio.

It’s 18 centimetres tall. Comes in black and white. It has a built in “A8” chip that powers the way it thinks and works. You can even use an iPhone to get it setup, similar to the way you can quick setup with the new iOS 11 or currently on an Apple Watch.

HomePod will be available starting in December, initially in Australia, the UK and the US.

A Writer’s Excitement: Apple WWDC 2017

For the second year in a row, I’ve quietly been building my excitement for getting selected to attend the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference in San Jose this year. Apart from my passion for writing, a lot of my time is also spent developing apps. I’m a nerd, by all counts. You could definitely nickname this event; nerd-fest for Apple fans.

California is also a proud second home to me. I have family in California whom I’ve spent many months when I was a lot younger. I also spent a few months relatively recently living there. I’m looking forward to going back, and enjoying all that my favourite fruit company has to offer.
