A Writer’s Excitement: Apple WWDC 2017

For the second year in a row, I’ve quietly been building my excitement for getting selected to attend the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference in San Jose this year. Apart from my passion for writing, a lot of my time is also spent developing apps. I’m a nerd, by all counts. You could definitely nickname this event; nerd-fest for Apple fans.

California is also a proud second home to me. I have family in California whom I’ve spent many months when I was a lot younger. I also spent a few months relatively recently living there. I’m looking forward to going back, and enjoying all that my favourite fruit company has to offer.

A Writer’s Trip To England

It’s been a few weeks, and I thought it might be a good idea to share of my recent trip to the U.K. I’ve traveled to England once before a couple of years ago. But did not get to soak up the culture as much as I did on this trip. I traveled there with my mother, to enjoy Southampton for a couple of weeks. I did some writing, which was good because a character I’m creating in my current novel, is from the United Kingdom!

I also made my way through a couple of novels and also bought myself quite a few new ones as well. Books, are very well priced in the UK!

I also visited a couple of Apple stores. Because of course I would do such a thing… I really enjoyed the train system, being able to quickly hop between Southampton and London. The whole being charged to use the restroom was quite shocking, and I definitely wasn’t excited about that idea.

All in all, it was a touristy trip done, like a local. As best it could.

A Nerd’s New Toy: The iPad Pro

Apple recently introduced an all new version of the iPad, called the iPad Pro. Essentially, the iPad Pro is a powerhouse machine that starts to bring the iPad into the level of laptops and notebook computers. They’ve also given us a new tool that works with this, called the Apple Pencil. I was very excited to receive mine this morning.

The very first impression, is that this is huge. It’s a monumentally sized screen. 12.9 inches to be precise. I’ve shown this to family and shared with friends, whom have all been gobsmacked with the size of the screen. The first reply I give; “Movies are going to be great though wouldn’t they?” And indeed they are. It’s a fantastic screen size, and something that is a wonderful canvas for the Apple Pencil.

The first impression when picking up the pencil, is the luxury of it. It’s a weighty tool and feels like a premium device to use with the iPad. The very first concern I had for tasks like drawing, was that resting my hand on the screen (like you would with pen and paper) would cause a problem. Quite simply, no. It works, and that’s all I need to say. The only con I would say about this entire experience, would be the hit to my bank account. Non of this is particularly cheap, and this is the most expensive iPad apple has ever made.
